Digital Storytelling

Posted by: rita2527 | May 27, 2008 |

I want to share a video that a classmate of mine created. Her name is Gillian Young and I believe she made this video for one of her ECMP classes as well. I have asked for her permission to share her video and I was able to retrieve it right from her blog. I think that her video titled Motherhood is so powerful in many ways. Her digital story shows her struggles and triumphs as a mother and the video will be able to be kept as a keepsake for many years. I love the fact that the story was created through technology making each aspect even more entertaining. Gillian quotes “I decided to do a wedding slideshow using Microsoft Photostory because it is so easy and it allows me to run the show on any computer that has Wibdows Media Player so I don’t have to worry about different years of Power Point causing the transitions and stuff to change!” I also like Photostory, it’s what I used for my MasterCard video as well.

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I have.

Hi Rita! I enjoyed watching your friend’s photostory. It was very well done. As for embedding videos in blogs on edublogs, basically they have created an uploading tool to make it easier. I had a lot of trouble uploading photos last week, so that is how I found out about how to use it.

When you are posting, there is a tool bar at the top of the post that says “Insert Media” and then there are symbols beside it. Click on the insert video symbol. You have two choices, you can either upload the video from your computer and then insert the entire gallery, or you can take the URL and it will insert it into the post. If neither of these work, go to the forums because there has probably been someone else who has asked the same questions. If they haven’t the admin replies quickly to your concerns!

Good luck!

I think that Gilian created that video for ECMP 455 last August. We took the course together from Dean Shareski. Say ‘hi’ to her for me if you are in class with her.

Re: embedding

There is a new feature at the top of the text box that reads “add media”. Select video and paste the url link to youtube. I have not tried this since edublogs changed the site admin so give it a shot and let me know if it works for you. If not, check the edublogs support, they are usually pretty good at sharing intuitive help.

Goog luck!

Thanks for this Rita, it was really well done, and it’s great to see another great example of photostory from students outside of this class. Thanks for sharing.
